Ms Rachada said the scheme is designed to reduce operators' costs while preventing fare increases, limiting the burden on consumers and ensuring sufficient public transport services. It targets three main groups: public transport operators, freight carriers and for-hire drivers.
Public buses in Bangkok will receive lump sum payments of 5,040 baht per vehicle for certain routes, while others will be subsidised at 2 baht per kilometre, subject to daily caps. Non-scheduled buses, including coaches and vans, will receive up to 5,000 baht per vehicle.
Freight trucks with 10 wheels or more will receive 6,000 baht per vehicle, while smaller trucks will receive 3,000 baht, subject to minimum distance requirements.
Taxi drivers will receive 5,040 baht per vehicle, on the condition that they install and use the DLT GPS Notice app. Registered motorcycle taxi drivers will receive 840 baht per vehicle.
All applicants must hold valid vehicle registrations and licences and must operate their vehicles in accordance with the specified minimum distances within 42 days to qualify. Compliance will be verified by GPS systems before payments are disbursed at the conclusion of the scheme.
The first day of the "DLT Prompt Support" initiative was marred by technical difficulties. Persistent errors in the ThaID app disrupted online registration, prompting large numbers of motorcycle taxi drivers and delivery riders to travel in person to DLT offices, causing overcrowding.
Officials attributed the problem to data integration issues between the DLT website and ThaID app, with some users required to operate multiple devices to complete registration.
Frustration was further compounded among taxi and electric motorcycle drivers who discovered they were ineligible. The scheme applies only to oil-powered vehicles, excluding those using alternative fuels such as LPG or NGV, despite many taxis operating hybrid systems. Drivers criticised the criteria as inconsistent with real-world usage and called for a review to ensure broader access to support.
Deputy Transport Minister Siripong Angkasakulkiat acknowledged the limitations, stating that the current phase prioritises logistics and passenger transport operators formally registered with the DLT.
He noted that assistance for app-based riders may be considered through platform operators in future.
