SEOUL, April 9 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Jae Myung's approval rating remained unchanged at 69 percent, staying at the highest level recorded in the previous survey, a poll showed Thursday.
In a National Barometer Survey (NBS) conducted from Monday to Wednesday, negative assessment of Lee also stayed the same at 22 percent compared to a poll conducted two weeks earlier.
Lee's approval rating hit 69 percent in the previous survey, when it marked the highest level in NBS polls since his inauguration.
Support for the ruling Democratic Party (DP) edged up 1 percentage point to 47 percent, while backing for the main opposition People Power Party (PPP) stood at 18 percent.
On the upcoming June 3 local elections, 54 percent of respondents said the voters should support the DP for stability, while 30 percent said they should back the opposition to keep the government in check.
In the same survey, 61 percent supported simultaneously holding a referendum to revise the Constitution along with the local elections, while 23 percent were against it.
Last week, lawmakers from the DP and five minor parties jointly proposed a bill to amend the Constitution to tighten the requirements for declaring martial law and incorporate the spirit of past pro-democracy movements amid opposition from the PPP.
The survey was conducted by pollsters Embrain Public, Kstat Research, Korea Research and Hankook Research on 1,000 people aged 18 and older.
The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points at a 95 percent confidence level.
