In the first 24 hours of the ceasefire, just a single oil products tanker and five dry bulk carriers sailed through a strait that typically accommodated 140 ships a day before the war, accounting for around a fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas flows.
Netanyahu, whose government rebuffed a historic offer for direct talks with Lebanon last month, said in a statement that he had given instructions to start peace talks as soon as possible, which would also include disarming Iran-aligned militant group Hezbollah.
"The negotiations will focus on disarming Hezbollah and establishing peaceful relations between Israel and Lebanon," he said.
An hour before Netanyahu's statement, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said he was working on a diplomatic track on this matter that was starting to be seen "positively" by international actors.
A senior Lebanese official told Reuters that Lebanon had spent the last day pushing for a temporary ceasefire to allow for broader talks with Israel, describing the effort as a "separate track but the same model" as the U.S.-Iran truce.
Israel was preparing to scale down its attacks in Lebanon, a senior Israeli official said on Thursday. Another Israeli official said talks with Lebanon were expected to begin in Washington next week.
Under a November 2024 U.S.-brokered ceasefire accord that halted more than a year of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, Lebanon agreed that only state security forces should bear arms, which means Hezbollah must be fully disarmed.

Israel has invaded Lebanon almost ten times since 1978. It is aiming to target Palestinian militant groups or Hezbollah. Major incursions occurred in 1978, 1982, 1993, 1996, 2006, 2024, and 2026, with the 1982 invasion leading to a long-term occupation of southern Lebanon until 2000.
Israel still withdrew from Southern Lebanon on May 24, 2000, to end a costly 18-year occupation, largely driven by mounting casualties, intense Hezbollah insurgency and public pressure in Israel. Short term Air superiority is different from controlling the territory for the long term.
People will come and go. Lebanon and Israel will be still the neighbors in 22th century. Love thy the neighbor is better than butchering the neighbor.

The White House now claims the ceasefire is completely different, e.g., is based on Trump's fifteen points, and what the media reported, i.e., what Pakistan officially said, is that usual nugget, "fake news". Pakistan's announcements include one on Twitter from their leader that was a clear copy and paste of a message from the US beginning "To Pakistan PM". Any side willing to do this is not spinning lies for Iran.
Israel usually completely ignores ceasefires, so them attacking Lebanon really isn't a surprise. What is new is the US trying to rewrite history one day later.
The cherry on the cake is Melania voluntarily hosting a press conference and bringing up Epstein. It seems like Epstein is now a more welcome topic of conversation than Lebanon and Iran.

A huge cyberattack courtesy of the Obama administration made damn sure of that, telling them 'Don'cha even think about that!'.
Cyberwar is how it's done today. And as we speak there are bloggers, trolls and hackers on the US, Israeli and Iranian sides causing misinformation problems for all. And who do you trust? Not trump, not Nutty Yahoo, not those ayatollahs.
